Pros:

• Really enjoyed creating my own land/island. Found that I managed to take alot of my beliefs in illustration and recreate it through this landscape.
• Used alot of colour with liquid watercolours - a medium I rarely use. Happy with results.
• Was an insightful experience in map making and the naming of places in relation to subject matter i.e - my collection of 50 drawings.

Cons:

• Needed better time management to create a map with greater detail/ a more extensive key.
• Could of created alot more place names for the map.

I've always had an interest in creating civilizations and environments for them to exist and prosper in so this project was one I entered into eagerly. Although I think my map could of been alot more refined and complex with extra time or clearer critical thinking. For example large expanses of the map are just one colour. Although the colours contrast sharply and bring the map to life, its still a shame theres not more detail or range in tone to give the image greater depth.

Source Project

The Source Project:

Pros:

• Was able to draw a wide range of interests which included mythological beasts, undead and fairytale creatures, gods and reptiles.
• Praticed using a white pen on black marker and was pleased with the results (see below for examples).
• Mixed observational drawings with illustrations constructed from how I pictured certain things in my imagination.

Cons:

• Time management was a factor that stunted the quality of a majority of the drawings. I spent more time on the first few illustrations before realising I couldn't spend the same amount of alloted time on the remaining images.
• Could have been more colourful in my approach perhaps?

I loved this project, especially after the hell of the cabaret project prior. I had a chance to present the things that inspire my love of illustration while also getting across my personal style. I think my collection of 50 drawings was a strange but very honest portrayal of what I like to draw. I'd have liked to given each image the same level of quality that the first few received, but saying that, some of the basic line drawings have a strong look to them too.

Cabaret Project

Cabaret Project:

Pros:

• Was fun making 3D elements for group cabaret.
• Bonding with other students allowed me to get to know them whilst seeing their methods of working.

Cons

• Lack of communication within my group caused us a setback that involved us showing our performance 2 days later than the intended deadline.
• Having multiple viewpoints, ideas and styles can cause clashes of interest that slow progress.
• When a group member isn't available the whole group suffers.

A fun project overall but one that was dented by inconsistent work and misunderstanding of information between group members. However, I greatly enjoyed bringing the text of Tom Thumb to life even though it was far outside my usual comfort zone.

Update for course briefs

Just realised this week that I should of been updating my blog with each project brief as I go through my illustration course! Sooooo the next few posts will contain scans of work done in each brief along with my thoughts and feelings on how they went.

Starting with: The Summer Project

Pros:

• Enjoyed working laterally instead of literally.
  
• Found that I was more adventurous with my ideas.
  
• Used alot more colour than I usually do.

Cons:

• Could of used more media e.g. watercolours, acrylic paint, charcoal, etc.

Thoroughly enjoyed this project during my summer break. Forced me to think about what each image had to represent and helped me to recreate each in an unpredictable way.
